Letting Go

Good luck sayin' good-bye.
I don't think you can.
I don't think you can.
Good luck travellin' the world.
I know that you want to.
I don't think you should.

It's the end of an era.  It's the end of the world.
You can cross every ocean and never find home.
You can climb every mountain and never find peace.
You can wander the earth and always be alone.

Good luck packin' your bags -
Your pants and your socks, and all your big dreams.
Good luck crossin' the front yard.
I hope you turn back before you hit the street.

It's the end of our future with the end of our past.
It's the waiting for the letters with their photographs.
It's the longing for the simple pleasures, and your warm hand.
It's resolving not to cry, but to try and understand.

Good luck, and I really mean it.
It's hard to let go.
It's hard to let go.
No matter where the world takes you
I'll always love you.
I thought you should know.
