Something Borrowed & the Blues

I found the perfect white dress to wear
And even the clip to hold up my hair.
The shoes and the gloves and the veil I love
Are safe in the closet, tucked away with care.

The cake knife and server are engraved with the date.
The limo is waiting for me at the gate,
But I'm in my pajamas here in my room,
And I've got everything - but the groom.

Something old.
Something new.
Something borrowed.
And the Blues.

There's no one to vow to take me for his bride.
That beautiful chapel's got no one inside.
I'm missing the love that I've been dreaming of,
But I've got a ring pillow to keep by my side.

They've all bought their dresses, so the bridesmaids are pissed.
Maybe they'll cheer up when I give them their gifts.
And the groomsmen are drinking in a bar across town,
But I am the one who's got sorrows to drown.

Something old.
Something new.
Something borrowed.
And the Blues.

So I'm gonna sit here 'til I finish this cake.
You say it serves 200? Gimme a break -
I inhaled that tier that we're supposed to eat next year.
I can devour anything you can bake.

I've got 40 bottles of cheap champagne,
And the two that I've finished went straight to my brain,
And though it has made my thoughts more acute,
I've now got a headache and a toothache to boot.
I just want to take a few days here and rot
And drown in the things that I know I have got.

Something old.
Something new.
Something borrowed.
And the Blues.
I've even got the penny to go in my shoe.
I've got a penny - and the Blues.
