Teresa's W-I-P's -
Daddy Was A Good Man

I saw the rope hanging down, like when we were young.
Off the branch of that giant oak in the woods.
But this wasn't the same rope on which we swung.
It wasn't as happy.  It wasn't as good.
Daddy was a good man.

Daddy never hurt nobody - couldn't if he tried.
He only ever tried to do what's right.
And as he walked away, my daddy almost cried
While they led him through that moonless, torch-lit night.
Daddy was a good man.

All day long the next day, and the whole night after,
We waited by the door 'til he came back.
We knew they'd see their mistake, and send him home with laughter.
But when the sun next rose on our little shack -
Daddy was a good -

There's a hole, now, beneath that rope,
And that hole will not be filled.
Daddy was innocent and so full of hope,
And he died for a man he never killed.
Yes, daddy was a good man.

NEEDS MELODY

I had initially written this to a sort of mellow, soulful tune,
but I didn't record it, so it's lost forever.
Since then, I've tried to rewrite the melody,
but I've never been fully satisfied with it.
