Teresa's W-I-P's - In The Theater

After hours in the theater - that's when things get wild.
Backstage where the lights don't shine - that's where you send your child.
You don't know the jokes we tell, and you surely wouldn't approve.
But there's so much that goes on that we will never tell you.

There's a secret something in the costumes and the lights.
Something moves inside us in the theater.
It wins us over in the dead of night
Our passion for the theater.

When the audience has cleared and everyone's gone home,
The theater comes alive as the actors start to roam.
The music roars and bodies move and what once seemed sweet
Now finds bodies flailing wildly to the rhythm of a frenzied beat.

Now the secret something in the costumes and the lights
Comes out from inside us in the theater.
It wins us over in the deadest of nights.
Such passion in the theater.

Take our hand and let us spin you round and round and round.
Mama, this is what I do.  My heart has been bound.
So the secret something in the costumes and the lights
Casts its spell upon you in the theater.
Memories of the late, late nights when you were in the theater.
When you were in
When you were in
When you were in love with the theater.

NEEDS MELODY

Originally written as an up-tempo standard,
the tune was lost via my usual trick of not recording it.
