Teresa's W-I-P's - What I Don't Know

I'm only trying to live my life.
What more could you ask of me?
You wait to hear me say something wise,
But I'm not what you want me to be.
I can only try as best as I can.
Anything more and please don't ask.
This is me, back where I began.
At least I can count on the things from my past.

Please don't cry.  It's not your fault.
It has nothing to do with you at all.
Fake a smile - it's all that's left,
But don't listen to me.  I don't know best.

You look to me to find the truth,
But you don't understand -
I've forgotten more than I ever knew.
And still you make me hold your hand.
Don't you see, I've committed my crimes,
And none of them were pretty.
Don't you see, I've done my time,
But I don't ask for your pity.

NEEDS MELODY

A lyrical tune-up and a couple more verses couldn't hurt, either.
